Moving South 2011
Well, we put it off as long as we could, but we officially moved South into the newer house for the winter on Saturday, December 3rd. We were going to move on Friday, December 2nd, but it was such a beautiful day that we decided to stay one more night. The lake is not yet frozen over, but we had to choose a moving day without a lot of precipitation so that things being moved didn't get soaked.

Sittin' on the Sill
Some days are just perfect for sitting on the windowsill and enjoying a breeze. This was one of them.
It was quite warm (nothing like the heatwave to follow!) but a brisk wind kept us cool and emptied the cabin of any heat buildup.

Merganzers
This morning a mother merganzer came along the shore with two chicks.
As they passed our window, they took a ride

Hobie Sailing
We both got out for a good sail this week.
The wind was light and variable but had its moments

Snapper
We are having a Solstice gathering today and so, naturally, it is overcast.
The mayflies are still out and being knocked from the trees by birds who swoop about with their mouths full. They also clatter on the roof after any that might land there.
This fellow seemed to be hoping that something might be dropped in the lake for him. If not, perhaps some yummie toes?
It is not too sharp as I too this from our side window.

Ice Out on Gooderham Lake 2011
The ice finally disappeared from the lake on Good Friday, April 22nd, 2011. This is almost a full 3 weeks later than last Spring. Both loons have returned to the lake, too.

Cooper's Hawk
Sitting in the tree near our front deck. Sadly this was taken through the window and is less sharp than I'd like

The Feeder Was Popular Yesterday
At least 9 deer showed up for lunch. This fine fellow was brave enough to venture to the nearest feeder

Owl
Our friendly barred owl is back again this winter. The tree on our frontage seems to be a favoured spot.

Last Light
Sometimes you get the perfect sunset.
Last evening was one of them.
I stepped out onto the deck and caught the sun just as it was disappearing behind the trees
